RULES
To participate in volleyball at Mears, there are some rules that every player needs to follow. These are:
1. Attend and be on time to all practices and games. (unless excused)
2. Come to practice with a positive attitude, ready to work hard every day.
3. Dress properly for practice - your gym clothes are fine. This includes proper shoes. Knee pads recommended.
4. Remember that you are always representing your school and sport - act appropriately.
Due to the large number of girls (170+) that participate in volleyball, we have found that it is best to have both a morning and afternoon practice.
Students may find that they have conflicts/other activities with afternoon practice, therefore morning practice may work best for them. Afternoon practice runs from 4:15-5:45 pm. Students need to be picked up at 5:45 pm. Morning practice runs from 7:45-9:15 am. The first two practices will be after school.
Morning practice will begin Wednesday
Once you are assigned to a team (Coach) that is the practice you will be expected to attend. You will not be able to attend morning practice if you know you will not be at the afternoon practice your team is having that afternoon. Each team has their own coach, and you must report to your coach. If you are absent from a practice, please bring a note/ or send email to your coach when you return.
We need to know what practice works for you. There is no guarantee that you will get your first choice as all varsity players practice in the morning, and we have a very large number to work with, however we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
All girls are allowed to play 3 weeknight matches and 1 Saturday.
Actual match schedules will be given to players the day before.
Matches will begin at 6:00 pm on weeknights and 9:00 am on Saturdays
Weeknight matches will be 2 out of 3 games. If a team wins the first 2 games a third game will not be played.
The first 2 games play to 25 points and the third game to 15 points, but all games must be won by 2 points. Possible time limit of 45 minutes may be enforced if the evening is moving very slow!
ALL Varsity and JV games will not have a serving cap. All C-levels will have a 5-point serving cap. If a server wins 5 straight points the other team is awarded the ball without a point being granted.
Jamboree on Saturday
Varsity & JV1 will be Pool Play followed by Single Elimination Bracket to determine an ASD Champion. More details will be given to those teams.
JV2, JV3 and all C-levels will play pool play and then bracket single elimination, one game to 25 points and ends around 1:00pm
