Message from your Principal:
Dear Hanshew Families,
As we prepare to end the 3rd quarter, I want to sincerely thank you for all of your support. We would not have been successful without your help. Please remind students that there is no school this Friday, March 5th. Teachers will be finalizing the 3rd quarter grades.
Please also remind students to dress appropriately for the Winter.
I have sent out a link describing the Hanshew options for students and the updated bell schedule for 4th quarter. If you have questions or concerns, please call the front office at 742-9930.
7th graders will begin the 4th quarter on Monday, March 15th. Please remind your students to follow the safety plan and wear masks properly. Here is the link to the safety plan, which can be found on the ASD website https://www.asdk12.org/domain/5379.
8th graders will have an asynchronous day on March 15th at home and return to the building on Tuesday, March 16th.
As always, thank you for your support, patience, and understanding as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic!

"March is the Month of Expectation.”

Quarter 4
As we enter the month of March, I cannot think of a quote more suiting than the one above by Emily Dickinson. March brings with it many things to look forward to including a much-deserved Spring Break, followed by the welcoming back of our students for face-to-face learning. Teachers and staff have been busily preparing to welcoming our 7th graders on March 15th, and all students on March 16th.
Intramural Sports
March also brings sports back to Hanshew! We will run two, 4-week intramural sports sessions during Quarter 4. Session 1 will run from March 22-April 16th and tentatively offer Cross-Country Ski, and Basketball. Session 2 will run from April 19th-May 14th and tentatively offer Track & Field, and Volleyball. (Specific offerings are dependent on student and coaching interest and are subject to change as necessary).
Intramurals will take place after school; Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2:30-4:00pm. Intramurals will focus on skill building and practice rather than competition and students will only engage with others on their team per COVID safety protocols. No transportation will be provided.
To participate in intramurals, students must provide:
A physical
Participation form
COVID Waiver
All necessary forms can be found on the Hanshew website, or in the Hanshew office. Sign-ups for Session 1 end on March 19th.
Have a wonderful Spring Break, we look forward to seeing you at Hanshew soon!
Sincerely,
Valerie Baalerud
Assistant Principal HMS

Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday: 8am-2:30pm. Drop off books in the blue bins outside the doors by the library.
Happy Spring!
For those students not returning to Hanshew for in-person learning, please use the Curbside program to continue checking out books and school materials!
For those students returning to Hanshew on March 15 & 16, I look forward to seeing you back in the building and the library!
There will be opportunities made available to you for book check-outs through mid-April.
PLEASE return any books you may still have from the 2019-20 school year, or from earlier this year. Textbooks should also be returned to the school.
Congratulations to Campbell Brandon, a Hanshew 7th-grader, who won the ASD Bookmark contest! We should have her bookmarks in stock in the library sometime this spring.
With a new year, and hopefully expanding travel/fishing/subsistence picking opportunities, bring along a friend or family-member with children, keep track of your dates, and get more services through my office to make education enjoyable. Thanks to all who have returned your signed COEs.
See your family's email from me about details on the state survey for our program, the school lottery, transitions to high school, PIZZA and developments on our Manga Book Club. Reply with your preference for which book you want to keep.
