Head Coach - Varsity/JV1

Steve Thompson

This is Coach Thompson's 22nd year coaching at Goldenview Middle School.  Previously he has coached C-Team, J2/JV3, and JV1.  He has also served as Co-Head coach for several years, and this is his 6th year coaching Varsity.  Other coaching experience includes three years with Boys & Girls Club, seven years coaching C-Team at South Anchorage High School, three years coaching JV at Service High School, and 14 years coaching multiple levels with the Midnight Sun Volleyball Club.

Lorena Blair

Lorena Blair is the Student Success Coach for Migrant Education at Goldenview. This is her fifth year at the school and 3rd year coaching. We are happy to have Ms. Blair back again! She was born and raised in Anchorage, and attended Mears, Romig, Dimond, and UAA. She loves playing sports and watching baseball and hockey. Her favorite sport to play is softball. In the summer she is on three teams and competes in at least a dozen tournaments. In the fall and winter, she plays volleyball and hockey on women's and coed teams. She also enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, and traveling.

Teresa Monrean

Teresa Monrean is a Math and Business Education teacher at Goldenview.  She has taught in Alaska for over 30 years.  She earned her bachelors of Education from the University of Montana and her masters from Western Oregon University. She married her high school sweetheart, Randy 28 years ago and moved to Alaska.  She has two children.  Her daughter, Allie, is a junior at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, where she plays D1 hockey. Her son, Bryce, graduated from Alaska Middle College last year and is playing hockey for the NAHL Anchorage Wolverines.

When not watching her children play hockey, Teresa enjoys hiking, fishing, reading, art and playing with her 2 year old Goldenview Retriever, Bailey.  Teresa began her volleyball coaching career while in college. She has coached all levels, including high school, elementary and middle school, and she looks forward to working with your daughter this year.  GO SUNS!!!



Assistant Coach - C-Team

Eric Heil

Mr. Heil has been a Goldenview Health and Physical Education teacher at Goldenview since 1997.  Over his many years of service, he has coached running, skiing, soccer, and now volleyball.  His daughter was a volleyball standout at Goldenview and later for Dimond High School.  "I love the game of volleyball!  This is the most technical TEAM sport and it is super awesome to witness young players develop and pull together for success!"  We are happy to have Mr. Heil join our program!

Kristen Carte

Kristen Carte is a 7th and 8th grade math teacher at Goldenview who completed her Bachelors of Education at Western Washington University and her Masters in Administration from Chadron State College. Always passionate about sports and exercise, she earned her American Council of Exercise certification and taught group fitness classes in college and for various clubs here in Anchorage. She began teaching at Goldenview in 1997 and coached girls basketball and track and field for several years before stepping away from coaching when starting a family became the priority. Now that her boys are grown she is eager to get back into coaching and is thrilled to be a part of the 2023-24 season.

Rachel Roux


Rachel Roux teaches 7th-grade social studies and 8th-grade health at Goldenview.  In her 26th year of teaching in the ASD, this is her 2nd year coaching volleyball.

Together with her husband, Michael, they have three children.  All three kids have attended Goldenview.  Isaac is now a sophomore and Jacob is a senior at South Anchorage High School, while their daughter Mikayla is a senior at college in Arizona.  

Mrs. Roux is looking forward to another great season of volleyball!
