A FAMILY OF LIFELONG LEARNERS
PRINCIPAL'S MINUTE
Recently, the faculty was asked to think about someone at Bartlett who inspired them. Then they were asked to write down on an "Inspire me card" the details of these thoughts. The outpouring of admiration for other faculty and staff was amazing to witness.
In our busy lives, it is important to take time to reflect on the qualities of those we admire and an even more important, to intentionally practice and try each day to live up to that example. We should be grateful for this opportunity and excited at the challenge to inspire others in the same way we are inspired.
Please follow this link to read some of these inspiring stories of people who work at Bartlett every day!

FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT
Bartlett Fine Arts has been busy this year! On November 10th we had a great turnout for our annual Fine Arts Showcase, featuring performances by our Drumline, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Treble Choir, Bear-a-Tones, and Orchestra. The Gallery was also full of great new pieces by Bartlett Artists.
We also had eight students selected to perform with the All-State Band, Orchestra, and Choir at West High School on November 20th. This is like the State Championship of music, and it’s always great to see so many Bartlett musicians selected to participate in this prestigious audition-only event.
Bartlett Visual Artists continue to update the Gallery each month for their Second Friday shows, November had some great pieces focusing on the theme of mental health.
In other big news, we’ve opened a new Fine Arts Computer Lab, which allows us to enrich our existing Fine Arts classes as well as expand into new elective offerings including a Piano Keyboarding class.
If you have any questions about Fine Arts at Bartlett, please contact our Fine Arts Department Chair, Michael Preskitt at preskitt_michael@asdk12.org.
Upcoming Fine Arts events

Several of my students inspire me because despite their differences they manage to have a positive outlook and still believe in themselves.
Vernadette Fernandez-Alexie inspires me because she takes the time to learn about the people around her, values people, and reminds them they are important.
Jeremiah Brown-Spiropolos inspires me because he is a true friend, showing compassion kindness, and care. He is willing to share his life with others and is truly interested in others.
NURSE'S NOTES
The RICE Treatment Method is predominantly what we do in the Nurse's Office. Unfortunately, many students don't always follow the treatment instructions, which can prolong the discomfort and healing process. All 4 steps really do help with the healing process.
RICE Method for Injuries
Rest: Pain is the body’s signal that something is wrong. As soon as you feel hurt, stop the activity and rest as much as possible for 24-48 hours. Resting also helps prevent an increase in bruising.
Ice: A tried and true method for relieving pain and swelling. Apply ice for 20 mins every 3 hours for the first 24-48 hours after injury.
Compression: Wrap the affected area with an elastic medical bandage (ACE wrap).
Elevate: Raise the sore area above the level of the heart to reduce pain, throbbing, and swelling.
Accompany RICE with over-the-counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication (such as ibuprofen) following the dosing per the package.

GRADE WAIVERS
Over the last 1.5 years, ASD has offered Grade Waivers to allow students to participate in sports even if their grades did not qualify them to do so. Now that we are back in face-to-face school and offering free afterschool tutoring, Bartlett will not issue Grade Waivers next semester to play sports. Students must have at least a 2.0 GPA and be passing 5 classes to be eligible.
** Remember: If your name does not appear correctly in Zangle/Q, you need to complete the yellow name form so your name will be written correctly on your diploma.

EARPHONES, EARBUDS, AND PHONES
Please remember, earphones and earbuds are not permitted at Bartlett between the hours of 7 am and 2 pm. Cell phones cause a lot of distractions as well. Cell phones should not be used in classrooms or passing periods. Teachers may limit the use of cell phones in the class as well. If seen, a staff member will confiscate the device and bring it to Student Services where it will be logged and locked up. If it is the student's first offense, the student may pick up the device after 2 pm. If the device is confiscated again, a parent/guardian who is listed in Q will have to come into the school and pick up the device at their convenience.
We encourage parents to call the front office to send important messages to their students instead of texting or calling.
