Participating in field experience is crucial for potential future teachers, providing hands-on experience and application of the theories learned in a real-world setting. These students develop practical skills, understand classroom dynamics, build rapport with students, and learn effective teaching strategies while being guided by an experience teacher mentor. Students in Teacher Cadets participate in a 20-hour field placement.

The primary goal of the program is to encourage academically talented, high-achieving students with exemplary interpersonal and leadership skills to consider teaching as a career. An important secondary goal is to develop future community leaders who will become civic advocates for public education. The dual credit accrual course is taught through Erskine College. In addition, students will complete a 15 hour field experience in local schools. Students with a 3.0 or higher GPA on an unweighted scale are eligible to apply for acceptance into the program.
Students in the Teacher Cadet AP class participated in Read Across America at Marshall Primary School. We appreciate Mrs. Russell's invitation and the warm welcome from MPS staff!
