this week's spelling words are under the homework tab
Greetings!
I am thrilled to be your child's Second grade teacher this year! I believe that you are the first and most important teacher in your child's life and by working together we will be able to provide an optimal learning environment for your child. I look forward to partnering with you this year.
*Just a reminder that the only drinks in the classroom, should be Water in a water bottle with a pull-up, no drip spout. (No twist off open tops please. They make for big messes!) We will have a morning and an afternoon snack time. I ask that you please make your child's snack be a "Dry" snack and easy for your child to open themselves. Snack time will only be 5 minutes out of our day.
**Each day we will have a daily homework folder (gray with the Ascent logo) sent home in your child’s backpack. Our homework expectation for Second grade is 20-25 minutes of reading. We ask that you initial the reading log every night. Please check the gray Ascent folder daily for projects, notes, completed classwork.
I will do my best to check emails around 8:30 daily during my planning period. If there is an emergency please reach out to the front office. 970-545-6650

ABOUT ME
I am graduate from the University of Memphis where I received my BS degree in elementary education. I have taught in a variety of schools over the years since 1987. I have taught Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th grade classrooms in the public school system. I am an avid paddle boarder, hiker, skier and kayaker. I love to share any down time with my husband and grown children in the great Colorado outdoors!
EDUCATION PHILOSOPHY
Classical education is the art of combining virtue with the love of learning ideas of substance, truth and honor. I consider it my true calling to help foster a love of learning through which children develop a strong sense of self esteem and an internal desire to expand their minds through creative exploration, discussion and imagination. The objectives of classical education lend themselves to forming an individual with a strong moral compass and hunger of knowledge. Their lives become an adventure worthy of nothing less than their best selves.
WHAT I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO
There is so much that I am looking forward to this year in Second Grade! I am excited to share all the rich content that we will be covering as we explore the Life of notable Americans, the constitution and the Revolutionary War, the original 13 colonies, and so much more! The moments when I am able to hear a child, who has been challenged with his/her reading shout I get it! I can read! are heart filling. These learning moments, rather they be in math, reading. phonics or other content areas, are what thrill me the most and excite me year after year.
