Mr. Burke's Rules and Expectations
When I am speaking, I expect students to be silent. This is a simple matter of respect, but it's also necessary for everyone's safety and so that we can quickly move through the directions to get to our activities.
When PE is held in the Great Hall, nobody is to leave the room without my permission. This is a no-tolerance policy.
When we are outside, nobody is to go anywhere where I cannot see them.
Nobody is to do anyone or any of the school's property any intentional harm or damage. This is another no-tolerance policy.
Crucially, I expect students to put their best foot forward each and every day. I ask that students compare themselves to who they were yesterday, not who someone else is today.
This list of rules and expectations will be explained during the first week of class and enforced throughout the school year.
Consequences
I would like to treat misbehavior like fouls in basketball. When you commit a foul, you are not immediately ejected from the game. Hopefully you learn from your mistake and avoid making it again in the future. However, recurrent misbehavior or blatant violations of the rules will be taken seriously. Negative consequences may include verbal warnings, removal from activities, removal from the class, and as a last resort, letters to parents explaining misbehavior.
Grading
Students will primarily be graded on their attitude, effort, and willingness to listen to and follow directions.
