Greetings!
Welcome to Mr. Tomlin's 4th grade class website. This will be a communication hub for parents and a resource hub for students in need of materials.
Students who were absent from class can find out what content they missed by checking the "Homework" tab. They will need to communicate with me when they will do make-up work.
Assignments to be completed for homework can be found under the "homework" tab. This section will be updated dailbefore 4:00 p.m. to include any in-class assignments that were assigned for homework
Mr. Tomlin | Fourth Grade | Ascent of Northern Colorado
ABOUT ME
I was born in Spokane, Washington as the youngest of three children. In elementary school, my family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado. After graduating from Fossil Ridge High School, I attended Colorado Christian University in Lakewood. While at CCU I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and met my lovely wife, Dabria. After spending several years working with middle school students in the church, I decided it was time to dive into education. Dabria and I just welcomed our first child, Faolan (FAY*o*lin), this summer and we're over the moon to be starting this new chapter.
EDUCATION PHILOSOPHY
Children are complex and whole individuals. You cannot separate their hearts from their heads, no matter how hard you try. With that in mind, it is my goal to bridge the gap between their hearts and minds through the virtue of wonder. Guiding them along the path of learning through discussions and discovery. All-the-while, cultivating within their hearts a love for the good, true, and beautiful.
"The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles, but to irrigate deserts." - C. S. Lewis
WHAT I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO
There are so many wonderful things to marvel at in the fourth grade curriculum. I look forward to reading invigorating stories, uncovering scientific mysteries, and the exciting conversations we will have in class.
Ms. Leiby | Fourth Grade | Ascent of Northern Colorado
ABOUT ME
My name is Kate Leiby, and I’m elated to be a teacher apprentice this year for your fourth graders! I took a strange path to education. I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a double major in Criminal Justice and Psychology, then spent a few years working in law enforcement as a state park ranger. I loved doing that, so my first job as a paraeducator at a middle school in Greeley was only intended as a job between seasons that sounded like it would be interesting. It ended up being so much more, as I loved being in the classroom so much that I found myself drawn down a new career path. I spent last year as a teacher's assistant here at Ascent with the fourth grade, and now I’m taking on more instructional responsibilities teaching science in Mrs. Grosser's class and history in Mr. Tomlin's class. Of course, you can still find me rangering around the mountains in the summer showing people cool spiders! I feel blessed to have found a way to do both of the things that I love.
WHAT I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO
I am looking forward to so many things. Mostly, I’m excited to see what the new fourth graders bring to the table! I think we have an amazing crew this year, and good thing we do because we have some of the coolest topics in fourth grade to discuss. Medieval history, dinosaurs, Robin Hood? It’s going to be incredible.
