In order to prepare students for the RefugArt day, the executive board has created two presentations outlining the basics of what Refugees are. At the start of the RefugArt day, 11th grade volunteers will present the slideshow to students from 4th to 10th grade. This will give students background information and a better understanding of the global Refugee crisis, as well as the climate's crisis's related effect.

To offer a different and more slow paced explanation of the refugee crisis, eleventh grade volunteers will read picture books about refugees to small groups of students for a more one-on-one experience. Our invited childrens book author that has written several books surrounding global issues such as the refugee and climate crisis, Mary Hoffman, will also attend virtually for a live Q&A with the 5th grade students. These students will have already read her book in class before the event, and will come prepared with questions and concerns about the refugee crisis.

The UNHCR has graciously lent us a real refugee tent, as well as non-emergency food items, to use in our event. The tent will be set up in front of the Elementary building. Classes from Elementary and Middle school will visit the tent during their allotted time. Eleventh grade volunteers will guide students through the tent, explaining the context and real life purpose of the non-emergency food items, while showing the displayed images and posters of the items in action. This experience allows students to get a more real, in person sense of a refugee experience. They will see what it is like to live in a tent in a Refugee camp, while being shown the little resources refugees usually have to aid the students in gaining a more personal understanding of the crisis.

On the ECC wall, an interactive art piece will be created throughout the day. As students visit this station, they will be able to write and draw on the art piece, as well as create little origami boats with meaningful messages in them. By the end of the day, we will have a public art piece that demonstrates ASB's support and solidarity for the Refugee crisis.
