All pupils in S1 attend the Faculty for a period of ICT.
Pupils use this period to gain key skills in using a variety of different software packages. Pupils will experience a range of topics and cover Level 2 & 3 outcomes. By the end of the course, pupils should have achieved a good level ICT skills.
Pupils will learn how to use the school's IT system for completing their ICT work.
This is important, as it will help pupils understand how to create folder and new documents for other subjects across the school.
Pupils will learn how to use the basic functions of presentation software. This includes:
Creating a new presentation
Adding new slides
Design features
Using bullet points
Adding graphics
Using animations and transitions
Pupils will have an opportunity to show their understanding of this unit at an apporpriate point set by their class teacher. The progress check is desigend to show what pupils have learnt, and can do, unaided.

Posters
Menus
Letters
Pupils will learn how to use the basic functions of word processing software. This includes:
Using spellcheck
Using the toolbar
Text alignment
Text formatting
Using headers/footers
Using WordArt
Inserting graphics
Adding page borders
Editing documents
Pupils will have an opportunity to show their understanding of this unit at an apporpriate point set by their class teacher. The progress check is desigend to show what pupils have learnt, and can do, unaided.
Pupils will learn the basic of how to use the Microsoft Access Database software. This will include:
Creating a new Database file
Editing an existing file
Changing data types
Adding new records
Sorting a Database file on one field
Pupils will learn the basics of how to use the Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet software. This will include:
Creating a new Spreadsheet
Using headers/footers
Formatting cells
Using basic formulae (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, SUM)
Printing
Pupils will have an opportunity to show their understanding of all units at an apporpriate point.
Progress checks dates will be set by their class teacher, when they feel the class are ready for this.
