Whilst reading, we focus on keys skills called VIPERS. This is to ensure that our children have a deep understanding of what they are reading as well as being fluent in reading.
Decoding in reading is the process of breaking words down into familiar sounds to help read each word. Decoding involves the use of phonics, or the correlation between letters and sounds.
Fluency is a combination of the ability to read with accuracy, speed, and proper expression, which ultimately helps students strengthen their understanding of what they are reading.
Reading with expression is reading aloud with feeling. This makes reading more enjoyable and engaging.
