School Counselor, Grades K-8

Dear ArtSpace Students, Families and Community Members,

Greetings! I want to take a moment to introduce myself as the K-8 School Counselor here at ArtSpace! This is my first year at ArtSpace and I'm excited to be joining such a creative and supportive community.

A little about me: I am a proud graduate of UNC-Asheville with a B.A. in Psychology and Western Carolina University with a Masters in Social Work. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Clinicial Addictions Specialist (LCAS), I have 8 years experience providing behavioral health support to children and families in WNC. This is my second year serving as a school counselor and I LOVE my job! My artistic passion is for dance of all styles, but hip-hop, tap, and West African are my favorites. My husband and I spend most of our time cuddling with our pup-babies (an 11 year old lab mix and a 6 month old hairless chihuahua), partaking in hikes and river swims, and cultivating our culinary expertise as foodies. When school is out, you can expect that I am in a far away land exploring archaeological ruins, natural wonders, and museums.

As the School Counselor, I am dedicated to promoting prevention-based strategies that build resilience and help students feel and be successful. My goals this year are getting to know our students and families and developing the counseling program in order to support our students in their academic, personal/social, emotional and career development. To meet the needs of our students, I offer a variety of school-wide programs, classroom lessons, small group counseling, and as needed, short-term individual counseling. In addition to these services, I also help coordinate referrals for our school based therapists and for community agencies that meet the needs of families. I plan and facilitate parent ed workshops that explore today's most common social-emotional themes and guide skill-building to confidently engage with students around these themes. I also play a large role in Student Leadership opportunities, such as No Place for Hate. I hope to expand my involvement in other school-wide initiatives in the coming years.

I strongly believe that together we can make a positive difference. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of assistance. I look forward to a meaningful school year full of laughter, learning, student leadership and adventure.

Thank you for sharing your children with us each day!
