Your goal is to fill a page of blank 8 1/2 x 11 paper with your initial. This video describes how to create a small illuminated letter and shares many ideas for creatively designing your letter. Keep in mind that you will have much more space to work with. Also, remember that when you design your letter, you should incorporate some of the ideas you wrote on your brainstorm paper so that your letter represents you.
Note to teachers: Younger students may find this video useful due to its background information and creative ideas, however I recommend that you offer letter tracers for all students who would like to use them. This way, students can focus all their efforts on the creative designs that represent themselves rather than exhausting their efforts while creating a block letter that fits their paper. Find downloadable alphabet tracers here. Simply type each first initial of each student and print. Students can carefully cut out the letter to use it as a tracer.
