I studied art at the University of California, Irvine and the Winchester School of Art in England and have enjoyed exhibiting my work since 2001.
I explored drawing and printmaking as mediums before settling into my current body of work in pen & ink, which focuses on the mood color can create and emotions that are elicited by varying color combinations. I create art to explore what I observe in my environment as well as my reaction to it.
The Echo series depicts a top and bottom mirror image. The top image reflects life's experiences during health, the bottom during illness or injury. The colors of life are still beautiful on the bottom portion but represent an altered experience from that on the top. The lower color palette may be limited, unusual, or unexpected as compared to the color choices above. They may also compliment or clash with hues seen in real life. People with long-term illness or disability can experience duality, with two essential experiences or time lines, one when they are well and the second when they are coping with symptoms or limitations. The Echo series is a reflection of this experience.
