No Limits was created by the "No Limits" Artists Group at Transylvania Vocational Services (Brevard, NC), which consists of about 30 adult artists. They wanted to create a large version of the group’s logo -- a figure reaching for the stars while leaping in the air. The image is a representation of how our artists feel when allowed to express themselves with "No Limits" imposed on their creativity and ideas.
The process involved the artists working together (taking shifts in small groups) to create the piece. They first painted a black background on a large canvas. Then they drew the logo image on the background lightly in pencil. Next, they began sorting and cutting paint sample strips from a home improvement store. The group decided on what colors to put where, and began glueing the pieces in place onto the pencil drawing. The aim was to make a mosaic image from the paint samples. Once all the pieces were glued down, the group added finishing touches, including painting some areas to make them “pop” and coating the piece with a final layer of Mod Podge.
The image represents the freedom the group feels when creating their art, which truly has no limits!
