About the Ballroom
Step off bustling Michigan Avenue and into a masterpiece of Chicago history. Nestled within the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, this two-story ballroom envelops guests in theatrical elegance, gold-leaf ornamentation, and an atmosphere of timeless grandeur. Designed in 1908 as the Illinois Athletic Club’s grand dining room and restored to its 1927 splendor by SAIC’s Historic Preservation Program, the space glows beneath original chandeliers and 700 sparkling lamps, framed by towering columns and arched stained-glass transom windows overlooking the Art Institute gardens. The striking harlequin-pattern tile floor sets the stage for celebrations, receptions, and unforgettable weddings in the heart of the city.
