Youth attendance trackers have student’s medical, allergy, and contact information. Go to the current sessions tab to find your course, and check Column Q for student medical and allergy details. Check the allergen information columns after the first day of class, as updates may be added.
ECPSI Classes may have CAAP students within them. CAAP students are denoted on the Youth Attendance Tracker. If you have a CAAP student enrolled in your course, you will also receive an email notifying you from CS Administration prior to the first class.
You can find more information about the College Arts Access Program here. This three-year college bridge program allows CPS students to take ECP courses in a scaffolded manner that prepares them for the college admissions process.
Administrative staff may stop in from time to time to deliver CAAP-specific items (an admin staff person may come by to deliver items during the first class period), as CAAP students are given funds for food, supplies, and transit. If a CAAP student ever has trouble getting specific supplies (i.e., needs supplies from a place where ARTICards are not accepted), they should know to contact administrative staff.
If your class is going on any field trips to buy supplies, please let our office know so we can coordinate payment on their behalf.
It is the TAs' job to document class and student work. Allow TAs to have their phones or DSLR cameras out during class to do documentation. TAs should also be given time to upload and label images (often during studio time, lectures, or clean-up time).
TAs should include a variety of photos and label each file with students’ names. Faculty should ensure time for TAs to document student work. Documentation must be good-quality photos with attention to lighting and composition.
We require:
5 photos of finished student work, labeled with students' first and last names
5 images of classroom activity, field trips, or Zoom screenshots.
TAs lead evening workshops on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Workshops are held in the same classroom space as class 9:00-4:00. Students can use this time as a continuation of studio time. Attending evening workshops is required for all students (including those who are commuters).
Please let us know ahead of time about all field trips!
If you have planned a field trip for your class, please email saic-youth@saic.edu so that we can note that your class will be in a different location. It is important to know where your class is at all times in case of emergencies.
We do not hold ECPSI classes on holidays that fall during the summer term (typically, Juneteenth and July 4th). However, TAs who have been placed in classes during these dates will still need to work on June 19th. Instead of classes, students will participate in mandatory holiday programming, including a design challenge, student panel, and artist statement & portfolio workshop. Faculty are not required to work on these holidays.
The following resources are available for ECPSI Students and Faculty.

During the day, from 9:00 am-4:00 pm, if students need to return to Jones Hall or visit any other buildings that are not during their lunch, they must be escorted by a TA or rover. We understand daily schedules require flexibility, and lunch does not need to be 12-1 pm. However, students are only allowed into Jones Hall unescorted from 12-1 pm. If a student needs escorting for emergency or health reasons, please email us at SAIC-youth@saic.edu or call us at 312.899.8904. One of us will head to the classroom and escort the student. Please do not let the students go by themselves for any reason.
Students have extended studio time in their evening workshops, 6:00-8:00 PM. Additionally, they have 24-hour access to Jones Hall's studio outside of class time. This studio is set up for painting and drawing disciplines; it does not include sewing machines or adequate space for large sculpture-making. There is also a computer lab accessible in Jones Hall for student use.
Each ECPSI course is assigned a Teaching Assistant (TA). TA placement decisions are based on TA applicants' skill sets, experience with the curriculum, and work samples. TAs are current undergraduate or graduate students. They are responsible for attendance, class documentation, and assisting the faculty member. TAs also run evening workshops on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
