There's never one single factor that goes into show selection. Here are some of the persuasive factors for us:
Our staging of the show will be fairly tame in terms of what we do visually and what we ask of our performers. The most challenging moments in the show, which include sex, abortion, and suicide, will be staged tastefully and suggestively with little/no literal stage action. For those that would like specific details on the staging of these scenes, we plan to post a scene by scene overview of how we intend to address those moments.
There will be swearing in the show and references to sex and sexual desire. However, nothing in the show's contents couldn't easily be found on Netflix or other online platforms.
We encourage parents/guardians to accompany any child under the age of 13, who is close to that age. The show is not appropriate for audiences 10 years of age and younger.
Yes! On Monday, November 18th from 6:30-8:00 pm, John Bechtold, the show director and Performing Arts Department Head, invites you to come to ARHS for an open meeting about the show. We invite your support, concerns, and questions. The goal of the evening is to have mindful dialogue that helps all points of view be heard, person to person.
We are working with professional staff in our building that are trained in managing student trauma, emotional development, and individual support. This work will be a part of our working and rehearsal process during the production.
No. The show takes no position on abortion or other topics, but does put its characters in those circumstances.
