Lego and Cardboard

Alex Cardboard Bridge Test.mov

I did two bridges, one of lego and the other of cardboard.

This bridge was built out of lego. I thought it could hold 7 books that were a pound each book. I built the bridge up a lot in the middle. To counteract the weight I also added some weight on the sides. In the middle I put flat bricks on top of the bigger bricks.

I tested it with a book, then another, and another and finally another. On the fifth try it broke. I think it broke because there was not enough support on the bottom of the sides and it had a break between two legos. I put the photos in the order to show the different amounts of books in each picture.

My second trial was a bridge made out of cardboard. It was extremely simple. What made it strong was the zigzag (corrugation) in the middle of the cardboard. The way it works is it distributes the weight across the board. That hereby means it’s stronger than having a ton of cardboard.
