Curriculum:

We are using an adapted version of the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum, an open source curriculum, developed in a partnership between Illustrative Mathematics (author) and Open Up Resources (developer). The curriculum is "a problem-based core curriculum rooted in content and practice standards to foster learning and achievement for all. Students learn by doing math, solving problems in mathematical and real-world contexts, and constructing arguments using precise language."

The 6th grade curriculum covers the following topic areas:

Adaptive Online Practice:

Students have the opportunity to practice their skills using IXL. This is an additional program paid for by the Arlington Public Schools. Students should login using their google spyponder account email and the following link.

Fun & Games with Math:

Through a generous grant from the Arlington Education Foundation the Gibbs School was able to purchase a set of math games for school wide use. Through this grant, Fun & Games with Math, class sets of math games have been placed in each learning community with extra copies available in the media center for students to take home to play with their families.

About the Teacher:

Dr Bunn is very happy to be working with my favorite students again, Arlington students! In addition to both the Gibbs School and Ottoson Middle School, she has taught classes for the Salem Public Schools, Boston University, Salem State University and at the Museum of Science, Boston. She has both a doctoral degree and a master's degree in education. Outside of teaching, she enjoys travel, trying new things, her puppy Lucy and playing with children Elliot and Calliope.
