Hello Everyone!
Welcome to our website!
Please look for our September/October newsletter to see what we have been doing in recent Library classes.
Some highlights of last year were our March Madness Book Face Off.... "Who Would Win" which was won by..... "The Cool Bean" by Jory John and authors visits by Ben Franchi (Obscura the Cat) and Mat Heagerty (Lumberjackula) with our 3rd and 4th/5th grade students respectively.
During the Spring we were also excited to share with our 4th grade classes that the National Parks offer FREE PASSES to them and their families for visits through August 31st of their 4th grade year (see this link.) We added many new books to the Collection and look forward to seeing them checked out throughout this new school year!
As well as borrowing time each week, we share and discuss a variety of read alouds, as well as other topics such as digital citizenship, and research skills. You can find the Library day for each class here, along with our browsing and borrowing policy. Some classes keep and read Library books in their classrooms, others bring them home. We do ask that books are brought to Library time each week, even if they are going to be renewed.
We can't wait to share many new read alouds and discussion topics this year!
Please take a look at the Reading Resources page where there is information on our SORA app for ebooks and audiobooks. There are also links to lists of the eBooks and other resources available from the Public Libraries. All the lists update automatically as the available books change. There are also links to help you sign up for borrowing from the Arlington/Minuteman library system and from the Boston Public Library. The Research page has links to great resources as well.
We have an extra Resource Pages on Black History, Racism and Civil Rights, including a link to resources on the Harlem Renaissance for a project that some third graders worked on in their classroom last year. The Anti-bullying Promise is always good to read through and think about. We have some special read-alouds on Standing up for others, and Welcoming everyone, on the same page.
If you would like the option to listen to books or other content, the Reading Resources page also has tips for other Read-alouds, Audiobooks and Podcasts.
Happy Reading!
Alison Vaishnaw and Tricia White

Through January each year , we review 10 beautiful new picture books, and students then vote to pick the book that they judged most worthy to win the Caldecott medal, for outstanding illustration and design.
The top three choices in our Bishop Mock Caldecott 2024 were: 1st place Big by Vashti Harrison; 2nd place Jumper by Jessica Lanan, and 3rd place In the Night Garden by Carin Berger. Bishop students showed their good judgment yet again, since Big also won the real Caldecott medal. Big was also named as an honor book in both the author and illustrator categories of the Coretta Scott King Awards!
In 2019 Bishop students selected the same book, "Hello Lighthouse", as did the judges for the gold medal. In 2020, our second choice, "Bear Came Along" , was a silver medal winner, in 2021 our third choice, book "We are Water Protectors", won the gold medal, in 2022 our top choice Mel Fell was a Caldecott honor book, and in 2023 our second choice Hot Dog was the Caldecott winner. __________________________________________
