Philosophy, Purpose, and Criteria for Admission:
The Department of World Languages has chosen to confer membership in the National Honor Societies in Chinese, French, Italian, Latin, & Spanish in accordance with the criteria established by the individual societies and the department. Our purpose is to acknowledge the exceptional proficiency and scholarship demonstrated by our most accomplished students.
Juniors meeting academic standards will be invited to apply for membership the National World Language Honor Societies (NWLHS) of Arlington High School.
Qualifications for Membership
Eligibility requirements to be met by all students:
Students must be in their junior year and enrolled in the honors level of the language to which they seek membership.
Students must be enrolled in at least level 2 of their language of study.
Students must have maintained an A- average in their language studies throughout high school.
Students must have an A- in their language course at the end of the first semester during the year in which they wish to apply.
Students must have an overall average of B (unweighted GPA of 3.0).
Students must demonstrate commitment to the language and culture of study outside of the classroom, either through language clubs, travel, pen pals, use of the language with the larger community and so on.
Students may seek membership in more than one language honor society, but must meet all above criteria and submit separate applications.
