The minimum age to become a ball crew volunteer is 10 years old for safety reasons. The fast pace of play and quick-moving balls on the court require strong focus, awareness, and quick reactions.

What are the minimum age requirements for tournament volunteers?
Minimum age requirements vary by assignment:
Usher or Floater: 16 years old
Player Credential Monitor, Sponsorship Attendant, Volunteer Services Team: 18 years old
Court Operations: Open to high school students in grades 9–12

Will my ball crew or tournament volunteer duties involve working outdoors in the sun?
Most assignments are outdoors, though we also offer indoor roles, such as player credential monitor.
For outdoor assignments, please stay protected by wearing your ATC tournament hat and using sunscreen, which will be available at the ball crew and tournament volunteer tents.

Being a member of the ball crew is physically demanding and involves quick sprints, staying low on the knees to roll balls, and working in direct sunlight. That said, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that puts you right in the heart of the action!

What physical demands are involved in tournament volunteer assignments?
Most tournament volunteer assignments require extended periods of standing or sitting. Roles such as court operations and floater require extensive walking and moderate lifting.

How many shifts must I sign-up for?
We ask ball crew members and volunteers to commit to at least two shifts to ensure a consistent and meaningful contribution to the Arizona Tennis Classic.

What are the best days to ball crew or volunteer?
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday = the best days to ball crew or volunteer! More courts, more players, more action, and the most fun.
The tournament kicks off on Monday, March 9, with all players on site and matches running simultaneously across three courts. As the week progresses, play is reduced to fewer courts, ending with one court by Friday, as players move on to the Miami Open.

How do I register as a new ball crew or tournament volunteer?
To register as a new ball Crew or tournament Volunteer:
Visit our tournament’s ATC Volunteer Information Center and complete the registration form.
After registering, log in to the ATC Scheduling Center using the username and password you created during registration to select your shifts.
Please note that every ball crew or tournament volunteer, regardless of age, must have their own individual registration record.
Once you're registered in our system, you won’t need to register again for future events.

What is the "ATP Credential Acceptance" form?
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) protects fairness in professional tennis worldwide.
Established in 2021, it created the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP) and the ATP Credential Acceptance form, which clearly outlines the mandatory rules and responsibilities for players, coaches, officials, tournament staff, ball crew, and volunteers.
These rules prohibit match-fixing and betting and help protect the integrity of professional tennis.
If you haven’t completed the 2026 ATP Credential Acceptance Form, please take a moment to do so now.
Parking availability is dependent on ticket sales for each session.
If ticket sales allow, parking will be available only in the designated ball crew and tournament volunteer parking area located in the Southeast corner of the Phoenix Country Club (PCC) parking lot.

When attendance increases and the designated PCC parking area fills, parking will be redirected to North High School.
A shuttle service will transport Ball Crew and Tournament Volunteers to and from the tournament site.

Parking availability updates will be posted in the ATC Update Blog within the ATC Information Center.
Email notifications will be sent when parking is redirected to North High School due to high ticket sales.
Assume parking is available at PCC in the designated Volunteer and Ball Crew area unless notified otherwise.
If the PCC parking area is full, parking attendants will direct you to North High School.

A designated drop-off and pick-up area for ball crew and tournament volunteers is located at the tournament entrance on N. Country Club Drive.

Minors may only be picked up by a parent or legal guardian, unless prior arrangements have been communicated to the tournament staff.
If someone other than a parent or legal guardian will be picking up a minor, or if you need a tournament staff member to escort your child to the designated drop-off and pick-up area, please notify us in advance:

What are the credential requirements for ball crew and tournament volunteers at the ATC?
All ball crew and tournament volunteers must carry official credentials to enter the ATC during their scheduled shifts.
Returning Adult Volunteers: Submit a new photo or keep your existing credential photo. You can view your existing image in your Volunteer Profile in the ATC Scheduling Center. If you do not submit a new photo by February 22, 2025, we will use the photo currently on file.
Returning Ball Crew or Volunteers Under 18: Please submit a recent photo, as children and teens change quickly and we want credentials to reflect your current appearance.
New Volunteers: Welcome aboard! To ensure smooth entry through security, please Submit a recent, clear headshot of only you, taken against a plain background, with no hats or sunglasses.

Although our scheduling system allows photo uploads, we cannot download photos from that system to create credentials.

When do I receive my credentials?
All ball crew and tournament volunteers must sign both the ATP Credential Acceptance form and the required release form to confirm their role, acknowledge tournament rules, and receive credentials.
After completing both forms, credentials may be picked up during:

Upon arrival, head to the ball crew tent or tournament volunteer tent to check in and get started, depending on your assignment.
Use the official outdoor ATC Tournament entrance.
🚫 Entry through the Phoenix Country Club (PCC) entrance is NOT allowed.
If you already have your credentials: Bring them with you for access.
If this is your first shift and you have not yet received credentials: Go directly to the ball crew or volunteer tent, and our team will assist you with credential pickup or next steps.
Inside the tents, you’ll find snacks, drinks, and sunscreen to help keep you fueled and comfortable.
Please leave valuables at home, as secure storage is not available.
During breaks, the tents are a great place to relax, regroup, and connect with fellow volunteers.
Questions or issues can be handled at the ball crew desk or volunteer desk, depending on your assignment.
Your credentials serve as your daily entry pass to the tournament and help ensure proper access, security, and smooth tournament operations.
Tournament volunteers should report to the volunteer tent. Credentials must be worn at all times while on-site.
Ball crew volunteers should report to the ball crew tent. Because credentials cannot be worn on court, ball crew credentials must be left in the ball crew tent during shifts.
Volunteer credentials are valid only on days you are scheduled to work and do not provide general admission access to the tournament.
Access to specific areas of the tournament is restricted based on your assignment to ensure player safety, efficient operations, and a professional environment.

We love that our ball crew and tournament volunteers want to experience and enjoy the tennis—that excitement is a big part of what makes the Arizona Tennis Classic special.
At the same time, our primary goal is to sell tickets to support Phoenix Children’s Hospital, so seating for volunteers must remain flexible.
Before or after your scheduled ball crew or tournament volunteer shift, seating may be available in designated tournament sections, depending on ticket sales and availability.
Ball crew and tournament volunteer seating assignments will be announced daily and are always subject to ticket demand.
And remember—ball crew and ushers truly have the best seats in the house, in the heart of the action. If there’s a match you really want to see, volunteer!
🚫 Access to sponsor boxes, courtside seating, and VIP or sponsored hospitality areas is restricted and permitted only with a purchased ticket for that session.
Yes. Complimentary lunch and dinner are provided on the days you are scheduled to work.
Menus change daily and will be posted in the ATC Volunteer Information Center.
Snacks and drinks are available throughout the day to help keep you fueled.
Staying hydrated is essential—please remember to drink plenty of fluids before, during, and after your shift, even in March.

New Ball Crew
New ball crew volunteers must attend one of two ball crew training sessions before the tournament to learn their duties and prepare for the event.
After registering, you must select one Ball Crew training session on either Sunday, March 1 (1:00–3:00 pm) or Saturday, March 7 (10:00 am–12:00 pm) through the ATC Scheduling Center, and be sure to also sign up for at least two additional shifts.
Returning Ball Crew Volunteers
Training is optional but highly recommended as a skills refresher.
If you plan to attend training, please select one Ball Crew training session on either Sunday, March 1 (1:00–3:00 pm) or Saturday, March 7 (10:00 am–12:00 pm) through the ATC Scheduling Center, and be sure to also sign up for at least two additional shifts.
Returning Ball Crew Volunteers who wish to be exempt from training must receive approval from Tammy Auther, ATC Ball Crew Coordinator.

ATC staff and coordinators will provide the training and support needed to ensure all tournament volunteers are fully prepared for their roles.
Volunteer orientation is the primary training session, particularly for ushers, and provides a general overview of the tournament, including:

For non-usher roles, role-specific training will take place on-site before your assigned shift, so you’ll know exactly what to do, including any procedures, tasks, or safety protocols specific to your role.
No. There is no separate orientation for Ball Crew Volunteers. All necessary information—court procedures, positioning, safety guidelines, and expectations—is covered during Ball Crew Training.
Yes. Tournament volunteer orientation is available to help you:

We offer multiple volunteer orientation sessions prior to the tournament to provide flexibility and support.
After registering, please select one Volunteer Orientation session on either Saturday, March 7 (10:00–11:00 am, 12:00–1:00 pm, or 2:00–3:00 pm) or Sunday, March 8 (1:00–2:00 pm or 3:00–4:00 pm) through the ATC Scheduling Center, and be sure to also sign up for at least two additional shifts.
Please plan ahead to protect your personal items while volunteering. We recommend avoiding bringing valuables and not leaving valuables in your car.
While limited storage space is available in the ball crew and volunteer tents, these areas are NOT secured.
To help keep your belongings safe:
Bring only essentials needed for your shift.
Leave valuables at home or keep small personal items with you.
Label your belongings to avoid mix-ups in shared spaces.
No. Ball crew volunteers may not wear Apple Watches or other wearable devices on the court during play. As outlined in the ATP Credential Acceptance form, this policy helps prevent unauthorized communication and protects the integrity of the tournament.
We strongly recommend that your child leave their Apple Watch at home. If an Apple Watch is brought to the tournament, we encourage your child to turn it in to the Ball Crew Coordinator upon arrival for safekeeping until their shift ends.
Please note that secure storage is not available, and tent space is limited, making it easy for personal items to be misplaced.
We understand the importance of parents staying in contact with their children. However, Ball Crew Volunteers may not have a smartphone on the court during play. As outlined in the ATP Credential Acceptance form, this policy helps prevent unauthorized communication and protects the integrity of the tournament.
If a smartphone is brought to the tournament, we encourage your child to turn it in to the Ball Crew Coordinator upon arrival for safekeeping until their shift ends.
Please note that secure storage is not available, and tent space is limited, making it easy for personal items to be misplaced.
Ball Crew Attire Requirements (Volunteer-Provided)
Bottoms must be solid black, with no stripes or visible logos.
Weather-appropriate attire is required: pants in colder conditions or shorts/skirts in warmer weather.
Leggings may be worn under pants, shorts, or skirts for warmth; leggings may not be worn alone.
Comfortable tennis shoes with non-marking soles and white socks are required.
🚫 Apple Watches and other wearable electronic devices are not permitted on the court.
You will receive:
A tournament shirt (a white long-sleeve shirt may be worn underneath for warmth)

Being weather-ready helps ensure a safe and smooth tournament experience for everyone. Please be prepared for changing conditions:
Cold: Dress in layers and bring gloves and hat to stay warm.
Heat: Wear lightweight, breathable bottoms and stay hydrated.
Rain: Rain delays may pause play, but ball crew and tournament volunteers will be asked to remain on site to help dry the courts once conditions allow.
Any schedule changes due to weather will be posted in the ATC Update Blog within the ATC Volunteer Information Center, and email notifications will be sent as needed.
We will also send text message updates through Volgistics, our volunteer registration system, to volunteers who have opted in to receive texts. You can check your text messaging status in your Volunteer Profile in the ATC Scheduling Center.
Yes. Please check for updates before leaving home so you’re aware of any weather-related changes that may affect the tournament or your shift.
Your safety comes first. If weather conditions make it unsafe to travel to ATC, please stay home and notify us as soon as possible.

Where can I find the daily match schedule?
You can view the Order of Play under Current Tournament Details on our website to stay informed about daily match schedules.
You can access Live Scores, available under Current Tournament Details provide real-time updates on ongoing matches. For on-the-go updates, you can also download the ATP WTA Live app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
The Singles and Doubles Tournament Draws, found under Current Tournament Details, show match lineups and allow you to track player progress throughout the tournament.
We understand how exciting it is to be around professional players. At the same time, maintaining a professional, respectful tournament environment ensures a positive experience for players, fans, and volunteers alike.

Player interactions must remain professional and never interfere with match operations or volunteer responsibilities.
Ball crew and tournament volunteers are expected to respect players’ focus, privacy, and schedules at all times.
Ball crew and tournament volunteers may request autographs or photos only if the player is available and willing. Court access for photos is limited to ball crew volunteers only—parents and spectators are not permitted..
Ball crew and tournament volunteers may not enter restricted player areas to request autographs or photos.

The most appropriate time to ask for autographs or photos is outside of your assigned duties, such as:
After matches
During practice sessions
In designated public autograph areas
Never approach players before a match.
Pay attention to non-verbal cues indicating that a player is focused, preparing, or cooling down.
Be especially mindful of players who have just lost a match, as they may not be ready to interact.
Always ensure a player is not rushing before approaching.
