Dr. Weinert is an established researcher at the University of Arizona. As a graduate student, Dr. Weinert contributed to and was published on a groundbreaking research paper discovering cell cycle checkpoints. We read and discussed the cell checkpoint paper at the general meeting on October 22nd. Then, on October 29th, Dr. Weinert came to speak about the paper and his research in the genome instability present in yeast and the processes necessary for genetic modifications.
We had a great time at Gates Pass with our members! We saw a perfect Tucson sunset (and a rattlesnake) against a backdrop of stoic Saguaros.
At our general meeting on November 5th, we discussed and analyzed a paper that investigated how cancer uses EcDNA to evade the immune system. Members then presented their interpretation of the figure they analyzed. Come join us to learn how to read such complex and fascinating papers!
