Weekly Plans
Welding 2
Welding 2
This week all students should be evaluated on their five joints.
I'll be passing back your "Weld Parts" quiz; a retake option will be available for those interested.
This week we'll finish with our bead assessments and move onto padding a plate. We'll also watch a video demonstration of some common weld technique mistakes and how to avoid them.
This week you'll continue to hone your bead laying skills. You'll also review the basic components of a weld and the parts of the GMAW machine. By the end of the week, you need to have completed the bead welding lab.
Day 1
We'll do a review of what we learned from our GMAW adjustment lab, ensuring that every student has completed and turned in the lab.
After finishing the lab, we'll all go back and fully disassemble and reassemble one welding machine.
Then you'll review the three primary types of ARC welding and discuss/compare their similarities, differences, strengths, and weaknesses.
Day 2
Today we'll watch a video over the task of padding a plate. We'll practice this skill tomorrow in the lab. After the video, we'll review and discuss what we learned.
After this, we'll talk about the basic components of a weld. This material is testable material.
Day 3
We'll be in the shop today. Each of us will be working on padding a plate and experimenting with our bead form.
Day 4
SNOW DAY
Day 5
First, we'll review the basic components of any weld joint. After a few minutes of this, you'll head out to the shop to continue with our activities from Wednesday.
At the end of class, we'll do a GOOD cleanup.
Day 1:
We'll begin with a very brief introduction to the idea of welding symbols and what they are. All of us will be expected to develop a good understanding of the symbols and how to read them.
Then we'll talk about horizontal and vertical stick welding.
We'll also review the science of welding and have an introduction to the GMAW (MIG) welders. After the intro, we'll go back into the shop to look at the machines, choose our booths, and, if we have time, disassemble and reassemble the machines.
Day 2
We'll look at one welding symbol today
Then we'll watch a couple of videos about horizontal and vertical stick welding.
If time remains, we'll practice welder disassembly and reassembly again.
Day 3
Today we'll watch a video over the fundamentals of GMAW.
After the video, we'll go out to the shop to practice basic GMAW welding techniques as well as vertical and horizontal stick welding.
Day 1
We'll begin by reviewing some metal tiles with examples of SMAW beads. Each of you will analyze and assess a couple of these tiles, identifying what, if anything, went wrong in the welding process. Then we'll review common causes of poor weld quality while using SMAW.
After this, you will access the class website and take a look at what is available to them there (including these plans).
Then we'll talk about assessment/grading practices for the semester.
Lastly, we'll begin working on our safety tests and expectations.
Day 2
Today we'll work on reviewing weld shop equipment and safety rules.
Day 3
Today you will have a sub. YOU MAY NOT TURN ON ANY MACHINES TODAY. You can pick up a safety test study packet and review your different safety tests. I want you all to take turns reading each of the safety points, and explaining any extra points that you might have picked up over the course of Welding 1. Either AFTER reading the review for a specific machine, or WHILE reading it, go back to the shop and point out the parts and operation of the machine.
After a physical review of the machines, the sub will give you your safety test to take. Good luck.
Day 4
Today we'll continue with safety tests and metal prep.
Day 5
We'll continue with metal prep of the shipping crates.
Our Welding 2 students will work together to teach the welding 1 students about the fundamentals of SMAW.
This week we will work on mastering the five basic welding joints. You will create an exceptional weld of each type of joint for evaluation.
This week we are working on personal projects.
This week students are working on individual projects. As a group, we will reach out to Monroe Truck through email in order to request help in cutting out our pieces for weld sculptures.
This week you will continue working on your personal projects. You will also refresh yourself on your welding symbols AND begin practicing horizontal welds. Each of us will pad a plate using only horizontal welds.
If you haven't completed your five basic welds, you'll need to do that right away!
We'll continue working on personal projects. I anticipate that we'll have the welding kits from Monroe Truck by the end of the week!
