Creation of the poetry fest:

My name is Fairouz and the poetry fest is my Young Poets in the Community project! Poetry often feels disconnected from the modern day image. People see it as an activity for older people. Old, boring, plain, complicated are all things people think of. I wanted to expose younger people to more modern poetry and help create and inspire a new generation of poets. So, from an idea birthed in poetry class, I applied to the Young Poets In The Community contest. My project exists only with the hope of encouraging people to explore their poetic side. The world is better with poets and their work.
