Members agree to act in accordance with this code of conduct. All information that you submit to the group will be treated in line with the ARDC Privacy Policy.
This short application form is to be completed before being added as a member. The form collects personal information for the purpose of contacting members and asks an open ended question: How would you like to contribute to this community? This question is intended to help shape the community by encouraging active participation as defined by the Roles and Responsibilities in the Terms of Reference. The application form is not a selective process and is only meant to understand community members and their participation preferences.
By joining this group members agree to act in accordance with the ARDC Code of conduct. Information submitted via the application form will be treated in line with the ARDC Privacy Policy.
Those who fill in the application form are subscribed to the mailing list, and will receive bimonthly emails with a summary of discussions and invitations to events from the group.
Community member participation will be mostly online via the public discussion forum and will serve to disseminate information asynchronously from any member of the community to all other members.
The activities and responsibilities are led and decided by community members and their initiative. The following are recommendations to run the group with distributed efforts. Members are those who have registered via the application form. Members can decide at any point to contribute as:
Co-host with a commitment of a minimum of 6 months. It is recommended to have a minimum of 3 co-hosts at any given point with no more than 7.
The responsibilities of a co-host include:
Sending a bi-monthly summary of discussions via the mailing list.
Encouraging interactions via the discussion forum, and keeping the categories in order.
Coordinating the logistics of the two yearly events, including the submission and presentations at eResearch Australasia.
Participating and guiding any events that the community wishes to initiate.
Updating the website when needed.
Adding new members to the mailing list and members page.
Recognition
Co-hosts may act in representation of their institutions which are then listed as partners in the community if they wish to gain more visibility.
Appointment
New members who wish to be involved as co-hosts must send a short introduction via the mailing list detailing their interest in serving the group. The other co-hosts will request feedback from the community and if there is no objection the new co-host will be made official.
Champion is a community member who is motivated to take on more responsibility for the success, sustainability, and/or running of the community.
The responsibilities of a champion might include:
Advocating for the community on social media,
Running a working group or local chapter, or
Taking the lead in new initiatives or events to support the community.
Champions act to supplement the work of the co-hosts without requiring a minimum time commitment.
Recognition
Champions can opt to be highlighted in the members page, including a denoted time of their service to gain more visibility.
Appointment
Members who wish to be involved as champions only need to contact the current co-hosts and detail their interest in serving the group.
Collaborators are any members of the community who, from time to time, make contributions to the discussion forum. Their main activity is knowledge exchange, bringing in ideas, events and documents for the awareness of the group. Externally these members will ensure the work from this IG is linked into and made visible to the data community and other overlapping groups.
Visitors are those members (registered via the mailing list) or observers (anyone interested but not registered) who are consumers of information, via social media posts, the discussion forum or events attendees. There is no expectation for visitors to take actions in group activities. They are welcome to participate in any media or event that is publicly available.
Topics of discussion include but are not limited to FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) research software, repositories and registries for research software, and in general services related to research software metadata, publishing, and citation.
Two discussion topics are out of the scope for this interest group:
For best coding practices, efficient programming, software development practices (e.g. abstraction, encapsulation or performance optimisation), we recommend generic forums like Stackoverflow (a public platform for coding questions and answers).
For discussions about Research Software Engineers (RSE) and their career progression within the eResearch, academic, and professional context, we encourage interested participants to join the RSE-AUNZ community.
