Behavior Support Specialist Services

Behavior consultants are specialists who provide additional support to the child’s team of educators. They do not provide individual therapies for behavior difficulties. They do help educators develop individualized and developmentally appropriate learning goals, teaching strategies, and strategies for managing challenging behaviors.

During the consultation services, the Behavior Specialist may observe the child in the classroom and consult with the classroom teacher. Following the observation, the Behavior Specialist may meet with administration, the classroom teacher, and/or parent to discuss your concerns and facilitate intervention planning. The Behavior Specialist may assist the educational team with  positive behavior supports to help the child become more successful at school. Ongoing consultation and support may be provided in the school setting to assist with the implementation and monitoring of recommendations as necessary, as concerns arise. The level of consultative support is based on your child’s specific needs and data presented.

Recommendations from the Behavior Specialist can be very useful, but the recommended strategies will not be effective in producing desired change without the input, commitment, and support of all those involved in implementation. Therefore, the requesting parent and school agrees to be an active participant in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the recommended interventions.
