Los Días de los Muertos, or the Days of the Dead, are celebrated throughout Mexico and Latin America. The celebration takes place annually on November 1st and 2nd. This holiday, based on Aztec traditions, is a time to remember, celebrate and honor ancestors, friends and family members who have passed away. Families usually celebrate by visiting the cemetery and making altars, on which they place ofrendas (offerings) of food, such as pan de muerto (bread of the dead), candles, incense, cempazuchitl (marigolds) and photos of the dead.
