My love affair with clay began when I was a little girl growing up on a farm in rural Wisconsin. I spent countless hours making mud pies and primitive sculptures. I loved the feel of earth in my hands. The mud (clay) I choose now is a bit more sophisticated, but the magic it possesses is the same. It gives me a sense of connected-ness to the earth and somehow (when things are going just right) it relieves all of my worries. It is such a playful medium, yet at times, can be so difficult to control. I sometimes wonder if I chose clay……or…..perhaps it chose me?
I love making any and everything out of clay. At the same time, I cannot resist the lure of dabbling in paint, pastels, and metal. Writing and illustrating are passions of mine as well. My mother is a writer and has inspired me to share my stories and illustrations with others. My greatest joy in creating comes when I get immersed in my work and time loses all meaning. Creating playful images brings out my inner child and the contentment and happiness I felt as a child making art. I want my stories and illustrations to evoke those feelings in adults and make children smile.
