About Us:
These last few years I have spent my time working towards my Bachelors in Media Communications with a concentration in Screen Media. During these years I have done my fair share of research on the epidemic of the loss of oneself’s originality and it all leads back to social media, in particular Tik Tok. I have made videos, podcasts and written a handful of essays backing up my claim that consumerism is connected to how social media takes over the originality of how one thinks and influences the decisions one makes. My main goal is to continue to show the world the truth behind what social media has done to the young minds around the world.
I’m a Communications student doing research on how consumerism and social media (mainly TikTok) are correlated, but also how it affects Gen Z purchasing merchandise. I’ve completed a few essays about social media’s addictive hold on Gen Z, and also made a video essay about the evolution of popular trends throughout the years on TikTok that showed how quickly new styles are introduced, what percentage of the main audience is Gen Z, and what trends audiences responded positively the most to, exhibiting how social media gathers preferences to cater to you and get you to keep coming back. My goals are to show how TikTok particularly is essentially responsible for how Gen Z is being influenced to consume an insane amount based on ads, paid partnerships and influencer-based content, and how different trends only stick around for a few months because of the need to keep modern society “interested.”
I am a Communications major who loves studying various forms of media, especially film, music, and social media. I think being a part of Gen Z also makes it very important to develop media literacy skills and study how different pieces of media impact our generation and the way we live. Consumerism is something so deeply embedded into our culture, and it’s something we see in everything, not just social media but in movies and songs, too. I’ve never been a part of a project like this where I’ve been able to voice my opinions about this topic, so being able to study it concretely and do research about the inner workings of how we are targeted for specific types of content has been very interesting. Ultimately, I think it’s important to make other people my age more aware of the content they’re consuming and being mindful about who we let influence us.
I am a fine arts major with a concentration in graphic design. I have an interest in how social media works. As an artist on social media, I’m always looking for the latest trends to make content for. Lately, I noticed that these trends don’t stick around for very long anymore. This project is a place where I am able to voice my ideas and opinions on trends and how they have affected Gen Z. My goal is to figure out why this is and to promote mindfulness when participating in trends.

I am a media and communications major. I am doing research on how mental health impacts Gen- Z on social media in different ways. I feel like our generation can be lost without social media and it has a big impact on us because we see the famous people buying different things online which makes other people wanna buy it to fit in I feel like the need to fit in is a big thing and people can be scared to go off and do there own thing even if its by themselves. I feel like a lot of people are scared to be alone and to start new trends online. I believe that the online space is just such a negative space that it affects everyone such as not being able to wear what you want and not being able to share your opinion without being attacked online.
