Ancient Greeks had seven different words for "love," identifying seven different kinds of affection that one can feel for another:
Eros : sexual or passionate love
Phila : friendship and goodwill
Storge : familial love (between blood relations)
Agape : universal, unselfish love (i.e. for strangers, for nature, for God)
Ludus : playful or uncommitted love
Pragma : practical love based on reason or duty
Philauta : self-love
