Notices and information
20th March
Kia ora whānau,
We are thrilled to announce that Ally Lee-Coll will be joining Teretere as the new teacher from Term 2. The class will be called Teretere 4 (T4) and Ally will be based behind Lesley and Angela's spaces. A huge congratulations to Ally. We are all looking forward to working with you. You can visit the schools web page over the next few weeks, to read more information about Ally. In preparation for this role, Ally hopes to attend the Cohort 3 learners' visits on Wednesday, 2nd April, and Wednesday, 9th April.
Many thanks to all the wonderful parents and grandparents who volunteered to help with our sports morning to Foster Park on Tuesday. Unfortunately the weather was wet and it was cancelled. Thank you Lesley and team for your organization of this trip. We are going to try and arrange another sports day at our kura. However, we do have another trip coming up in week 10 on Tuesday 8th April. Please see your child's teacher if you or a grandparent can help. Information was sent out on Wednesday 19th March on Hero.
We are busy re-assessing your child on their phonological awareness and S/L skills. We may make a few adjustments over the next few weeks. Your child will let you know if they are with a new teacher. This is usually due to group sizing as we try to keep our groups to a maximum of five, for quality explicit teaching.
Milk bottle tops: can we please have any red or light green bottle tops.
Gastro/colds: We have a number of children off with vomiting, diarrhoea and, colds. As with all illnesses, please keep your child at home if they are unwell and follow the Ministry of Health guidelines as to when your child may return. We are finding it increasingly difficult to find relief teachers to cover staff with short notice, who also become unwell. Please inform the office before 9am if your child is sick. Thank you.
Missing: a jacket named Holly Fraser. Please check your child's clothing frequently as sometimes items go home in the incorrect bag. If found, please return to Teretere 1. Thank you.
Just a reminder:
Dogs: there has been a report of some unrestrained dogs in the school area. Please ensure that no dogs are taken into then school grounds. All dogs need to be on a lead if walking to/from school and under full control by the owner or walker.
Items from home: please do not bring items from home to school | kura. They can get lost or broken. We do not have 'sharing' on Fridays, as we are running an alternative oral language programme. Please keep all items at home. Your help is appreciated.
Lunches: We are a 'water only school'. Please no juice, Up & Go or flavoured milk (or sweets) at school. Please leave these items for home. Thank you. Please make sure your child can open and close their lunchbox themselves. If using packets, please snip these with scissors so your child can tear this easily and, yoghurt lids loosened if buying the squeezie type. As an 'Enviroschool', all rubbish is returned home to be disposed of. Sushi and Subway lunches: Sushi day is Wednesday (please bring a spoon) and Subway is on Fridays. If you wish to use this service, please pre-order on the Kindo app the night prior (or earlier).
Poetry book: Please read the poem to your child. There are some handy tips in the front of the book for discussion. Read these poems frequently. Leave this in your child's reading folder so we can add to this. We usually add to this anthology on a Friday.
Reading: Please read several books to your child every day. Join the local Lincoln library to add a variety of genres.
Reading folders: please ensure that these are at school | kura every day and that your child brings this in to class before school. We will be assessing tamariki over the next few weeks and your child may have a new S/L (Structured literacy) teacher. They will put their folder in their S/L teachers room. However for now, please leave your folder in their current S/L class. Homework will be put in their orange book to be completed over the week. Please also note that there are words to learn in the back of this book to rote learn.
Maths: continue to count forwards and backwards from any number. Ask your child what number comes before or after a certain number.
Library day is on Mondays for term 1. Your child may have their book/s out for two weeks, although most children have them for one week. Please ask your child's teacher where to return their books in class. Your child cannot get out any new books unless they have returned the ones borrowed. Kia ora whānau,
We are excited to share with you that Teretere will be going on a trip on Tuesday 8th April from 9am to approximately 3.00pm. All tamariki will be taking part in the Junior Park Explorers at Halswell Quarry. This program allows the children to see the regional parks come alive as students awaken their senses to explore the awe and wonder of the natural world. They learn to listen to different bird calls, feel the different parts of a tree and see bugs in their natural habitat. Through these activities, students understand how birds, bugs and trees are all connected. This is an ignition for our inquiry in term 2.
The cost of the bus fare will be charged to your school account. For this event to run smoothly we need around four parent or grandparent helpers per class to support the children along with Whaea Nicky, Whaea Angela and Whaea Lesley. If you are free and would like to come along and support your child’s class could you please let your child’s ako teacher know and fill out a parent volunteer form at the office (if you have not already.)

Kia ora whānau,
We've had another busy few weeks in Teretere. The tamariki have settled in well and are into their learning. It was lovely to see many of you at our recent school community picnic. We have just advertised for a new teacher who will start at the beginning of term 2. Some of the children | tamariki will join the current classes in week 6 for a few weeks, before moving to the new class in April.
We are going on a trip to Foster Park (sports morning) on Tuesday 18th March from 8.50am to approximately 12.00pm. We require a number of parent or grandparent helpers to enable us to go on the trip. Please email your child's teacher if you are able to help. More information regarding this was sent out in another email on Hero on 19/2. A copy of this is below. Please note that if your child is late on this day and we have already taken the roll, they will spend the morning in another class.
We require some items for making musical instruments for all akomanga classes ready for a performance in a few weeks time. Items like yoghurt pottles, acorns, tins, small boxes, kitchen paper roll inners etc. Due to hygiene reasons, please NO toilet rolls. Please put these items in the grey bin in the art space next to Angela's room. Thank you.
Just a reminder:
Hi vis vests should be worn to/from school every day even if you travel by car. The vest can be left in the side pocket of your child's bag so it can be easily found at the end of the day. It is a good idea if sun hats are also stored in a side pocket as well, so your child can find this easily. Hi vis vests are required to be worn on all school trips.
Shoes: if your child has shoe laces, please ensure they can tie them by themselves. We are frequently taking our shoes on/off during the day e.g. to go to the library or when playing in the sandpit. Thank you for your help with this.
If your child is sick, please notify the office before 9am. It is great if you let the teacher know as well, but we don't always check our emails in time or may be away ourselves.
Blog photos: please email your child's akomanga teacher if you do not want photos of your child on our blog or on the schools facebook pages.
Pepeha: A copy of your child's pepeha will be sent home over the next few weeks to learn. Please see your child's teacher if you have not received this by the end of next week. There is an example/video on the 'Learning at home' page - link above.

Kia ora whānau,
Just a reminder:
Please purchase your child’s stationery from Qizzle, name the books and reading folder and give this to the teacher on your child’s first day this Friday 31st January at the drop in day. Bookings for this can be made on Hero.
Your child will require a full brimmed bucket navy sunhat. Please name this well and put this in the side pocket of their bag for easy access. Some parents sew something small on the outside of the hat so it is easily identified.
Our team's blog and Teretere notice page is now linked on the schools web page. Please check this frequently (as well as the school newsletter) as this contains important information. Both are published fortnightly on alternative weeks.
Our mihi whakatau (māori welcome) is being held on Wednesday 5th February from 9.15am. This is a special welcome to you and your whānau to ASP. Please drop your child to their akomanga class as usual before 9am and once the roll has been taken, a teacher will bring your child to you at around 9.10am to the library. You are welcome to wait in the library prior.

Welcome to 2025
22nd January
Kia ora,
I hope you and your whānau are enjoying the summer break.
We are excited to welcome you and your child to the start of the 2025 school year. Starting school is a significant milestone, and we look forward to working together to create a positive and supportive learning environment for your child.
To help ease into the new school year, we invite you to a Drop-In Day on Friday, 31st January. This is an opportunity for you and your child to familiarize yourselves with the learning spaces, find where to put school bags, and meet the teachers. You can also drop off your child’s named stationery on this day, which can be purchased through Qizzle. Look out for an email in mid-January with details on how to book your session (if not already received). Please note this is not a one-on-one meeting with the teacher, as other families will also be present during your time slot.
A few important reminders:
School officially starts on Monday, 3rd February.
There will be no school on Thursday, 6th February (Waitangi Day) and Friday, 7th February (Teacher Only Day - Professional Development).
For all new families | whānau starting for the first time in 2025: To comply with enrolment requirements, please bring a current utility bill or insurance document dated January 2025 to the office between Monday, 27th January, and Thursday, 30th January, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. This is for all new families | whānau, even if you have already submitted documents. Please note the office may not be staffed on Drop-In Day, so documents cannot be submitted then. Alternatively, you can email them to office@ararira.school.nz before this date. These documents must be received before your child can start school, but not on the morning of Monday 3rd. Please do not give this to a teacher, as the office staff manage enrolments.
If your child has any medical needs, please chat to your child's teacher on Friday 31st. If your child requires medication e.g. an inhaler, this needs to be well named. Fill in a form at the office, as all medication is stored in the office area.
We look forward to seeing you and your child again and beginning this exciting journey together. If you have any questions, please email your child's teacher. Their email address is on the tab above. Please note that they may take a few days to get back to you, as they are presently on holiday.
