In short: a daily drumming practice challenge.
Participants - known as "Fivers" - agree to practice 5 prescribed drills, which will take 5 minutes to complete each day. This is repeated 5 days per week (Monday through Friday) for a period of 5 weeks per session.
The catch is that every "Daily Five" must be video recorded and posted directly to the group (now hosted on Discord) for all other currently active Fivers to see, like, and comment as a means of group accountability.
The original Five was developed for snare drumming and is approachable to anyone who can already play taps, buzzes/rolls, flams, and drags. This track is now Snare 1.
The next track added is for tenor drumming and is approachable to anyone who can play basic rhythms, execute simple arm motions, and can handle The Four Essential Flourishes (out/rev, in/fwd, out/fwd, in/rev). This track is Tenor 1.
Snare 2, an enhanced track for snare drummers, has been added which expands the challenge to extended patterns that also extend to differentiated interpretations of similar phrases.
Tenor 2, an enhanced track for tenor drummers, has been added to build on the skills of the original challenge. It focuses on additional rhythms and varied approaches to essential motions and flourishes.
Additional tracks may be added in future sessions which will be announced here and on social channels with descriptions of each new offering.
Absolutely! If you are the parent/guardian of a young potential Fiver who does not have access to Discord, you are welcome to join and post on their behalf. We have had multiple young veteran Fivers who have participated in this way. If a young drummer has their own Discord account, parents/guardians are welcome to join the group as well.
Excuses do not lead to improvement.
To others AND yourself!
Production quality doesn't matter and mistakes are part of learning.
No one is "too good" or "not good enough" to refine techniques and improve fundamental skills.
