Debating Club Meeting Guidelines

Audience and new members welcome and encouraged
as long as they obey the ..

 Rules

No speaking or interruptions from the audience while a debate is in progress.

Agenda

Debate or Debate preparation on alternate weeks.

Comments and discussion, moderated, after each debate if time.

Announcement of winner and awards.

Choice of topic for next debate.

Roles

Adjudicator: timekeeping, crowd management, moderating discussion.

Technical assistant: monitoring web interactions and voting.

First speaker – introduction and background to topic.

Second speaker – arguments and rebuttals.

Third speaker – summary and closing arguments.

Different Adjudicator every second week.

Different Moderator every second week.

Debate

Debates begin with the first affirmative speaker.

Each speaker gets three minutes.

Warning bell to ring 30 seconds before the end of the three minutes.

Results

Winners will be chosen based on online voting.

Voting opens at the start of recess and closes at the end of recess.

Debates can still take place if less than three team members are present.

If no team members are present and nobody is willing to volunteer to speak on the day

the other side wins by default.
