  • Behavioral or physical changes
  • Excessive tardies/absences
  • Anxiety, fear, depression
  • Tattoos with male/trafficker's name
  • Minor dating an older individual
  • Difficulty focusing or completing work
  • Excessive money or jewelry, having a hotel key

Although these signs might help identifying a student who might be an exploitative situation, please take caution in not stereotyping as these indicators might signify something else

Questions to ask if you suspect exploitation or trafficking (Manasseh Project):

  • Can you leave the situation you are in?
  • Can you come and go if you want?
  • Do you have to ask permission for the basics (e.g., eat, sleep, bathroom)?
  • Have you been physically harmed?
  • Have you been deprived of food, water, sleep, or medical care?
  • Have you been threatened?
  • Has your identification/documentation been taken away?
  • Is anyone forcing you to do things you don't want to do?
