As the Wilden family had a long history of friendship with the university, Mrs. Wilden wanted to find a way to honor her husband Jim Wilden who passed in 1989, in a way that showed his strong ethical value and honesty in business. From this idea, a picture of the state-of-the-art building now known as Wilden Hall of Business and Management was born. October 11,1993 many students, family, and friends came to honor Naomi at the dedication ceremony for the Wilden Hall of Business and Management.
Have you ever wondered what the colorful machine-looking gadgets in Wilden are?
Well it turns out Jim Wilden, one of the founders of the Wilden Building, revolutionized the pumping industry by creating an air-operated, double-diaphragm pump. The pumps used to be located in what was once called "The Pump Room" which is now the Dean's Conference Room in Wilden 100.
What is The Jade Pendant? Why is the poster hung upstairs? Interestingly enough, The Jade Pendant is an independent film that was produced by APU alumnus LP Leung. Mr. Leung, prior to being a public accountant, including a job at paramount pictures, was first a research student at APU in the 1950s. In February of 2019, APU hosted a limited engagement screening of the film, which was open to all faculty, staff, and students. A Chinese immigrant himself, Leung shared information on the topic, uncovering what life was like for Chinese immigrants in the 1870s. He knew it was a story that deserved to be shared with the world but felt no one would relate to a Chinese protagonist. In 2013 his book, The Jade Pendant was published, and he spent the next four years making the film.
Schader's work relies on the idea of elevating the soul. Using geometric forms he attempts to create a connection through the simplicity of math. Schader desires to engage his viewers with both movement and function. Many of Brian’s popular “Twist of Life” series, which includes APU's "Stairway to Success," has a motorized base that allows it to slowly rotate (yes, that means you can spin it!)
"The most beautiful sight in the world is the Art of God then Man"
