As an educator, my teaching philosophy is to create an environment which promotes inclusion by celebrating differences, encourages exploration, and develops self-efficacy. I aim to share my love for literature while creating a space for my students to discover their own interests and passions. I also want to build positive and lasting relationships with my students in order to better guide them on their journey of personal growth. Ultimately, my goal is to provide my students with meaningful and impactful learning experiences that they will carry beyond the classroom. I believe that students learn best when they build personal connections to the content of the curriculum. They need to see their cultures, values, and interests reflected in the material I present them with. I also believe that teaching is most effective when multiple teaching strategies are employed. Direct instruction, project-based learning, collaborative learning, and seminars are a few of the approaches I plan to use conjunctively in the classroom. I hope to use these methods to teach my students how to be creative critical thinkers. I will help them develop reading and writing strategies so that they can better learn to communicate with others and express themselves. My role as an ELA teacher is to help my students find their voice.
