Officers

Biomed Officer positions for 2017-2018: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, 10th grade representative (x2), 11th grade representative (x2), 12th grade representative (x2), website administrator.

Candidates for each position may self-nominate. Candidates for Pres, VP, Secretary, and Treasurer must be a current junior or senior with at least 1 year of Biomed Club experience. Candidates for Class Representatives and Website Administrator can be new to Biomed this year. Nominations will be accepted by Mrs. Dine from Tuesday, 9/12/17, through Thursday, 9/21/17, via EMAIL ONLY. Candidates will have an opportunity to present themselves for 3 minutes to their peers at the Biomed Club meeting after school on Friday, 9/22/17, 3:30-4:30 pm, Room 206D. Voting will take place in the Biomed classrooms on Monday 9/25/17 using Google Forms. Officers will be selected by Mrs. Dine using the following 4 criteria:

  • Biomed student population vote
  • Last year's GPA (cumulative and 2nd semester)
  • Staff recommendations
  • Other activities you participate in

Candidates should inform Mrs. Dine of their self-nomination via EMAIL ONLY to ked46601@apslearns.org Candidates must include the following information in their email: the position for which you are self-nominating, last year's cumulative GPA and 2nd semester GPA (this can be approximate, but will be verified through counselors), and other activities that you participate in throughout the year.

Candidates who wish to obtain staff recommendations should ask the staff member to fill out a recommendation form (Google form). Obtain the staff member's email address and then email them this link, so that they can access and fill out the recommendation form. Descriptions of Officer duties (Note: Officers must attend all meetings, including Officer-only meetings and general Biomed Club meetings, unless properly excused):

  • President: the President shall preside over meetings and be considered the peer leader of the Biomed Club. He/she shall assist the Biomedical Science teacher with meeting agenda preparation. He/she will act as a moderator of all Biomed Club meetings and other activities. He/she shall ensure that other Biomed Club officers are carrying out their duties, as well as assist them in doing so where needed. He/she will be responsible for conduction of all fundraisers, creation of subcommittees, delegation of duties, and monitoring of delegated items.
  • Vice-President: the VP will assist the President in all of the Presidential duties and help support the Biomed Club. Should the President be unavailable to carry out any of his/her responsibilities, the VP will take the place of the President for any length of time necessary to ensure that the responsibilities are carried out fully.
  • Secretary: the Secretary will print out copies of the agenda prior to the meeting, as well as hand out agendas, take roll call, and take minutes at each meeting. Minutes will be recorded in a shared Google Doc with other Biomed Club members. Minutes will be available within 24 hours of the conclusion of the meeting. The Secretary will work with the President to ensure that all students are properly registered for any field trips or other activities requiring registration (online or on paper). The secretary will be responsible for communications regarding the Biomed Club, including writing and sending of emails, and placement of phone calls, as deemed necessary by the President and Mrs. Dine. The secretary shall work with Mrs. Dine to ensure proper communications are carried out at all times.
  • Treasurer: the Treasurer is responsible for all financial duties of the Biomed Club. He/she will collect and record monies, issue receipts, give the Treasurer's Report at each Biomed Club meeting, complete Biomed Club account paperwork for the APS Treasurer prior to a fundraising activity and within 72 hours after completing an activity, and propose budgets for fundraisers. He/she will also compare prices of various items and advise other Biomed Club members of best prices, in order to raise the most money possible for the Biomed Club and its members.
  • Grade representatives (10th grade x 2, 11th grade x 2, 12th grade x 2) - Grade-level representatives are responsible for communicating Biomed club activities and issues to their respective grade-level Biomed peers, and seeking feedback from their peers. Representatives have an added responsibility to commit to helping with each fundraiser, as well as seeking participation from their respective peers for each fundraiser. Representatives must listen to their peers with open ears and closed mouths, and they must represent their peers in an objective, non-biased manner at all times. Grade-level representatives will take a position of a subcommittee chairperson for each fundraiser conducted throughout the year. Representatives will also assist Mrs. Dine and the President with other duties as prescribed.
  • Website Administrator -this person(s) is tasked with satisfactorily maintaining the Biomed Club website, with assistance as needed from Mrs. Dine. Old news shall be copied to a Google Doc and dated, prior to eliminating it from the website, so as to archive all past information. Website administrator is also responsible for receiving photos from Mrs. Dine and uploading them to the website. Website administrator will need to learn how to create online forms, using tools such as Google Forms, in order to streamline the operations of the Biomedical Science Club.
