Friday, May 1, 2020: Interim Progress Reports

You should see your IPR arriving at home this week with other important announcements from your school.

2019-2020 Quarter 4 Interim Progress Reports (IPRs):

Teachers continue to use Home Access Center (HAC) to share progress as students engage in APS Connected Learning. Recently, teachers reported Interim Progress Reports (IPRs) to the school office. Instead of traditional letter marks on IPRs, teachers used marks of O, S, or U to indicate how well students are progressing in the new APS Connected Learning environment. See below for what a mark of O, S, or U indicates at this time. IPRs are not a final report of grades.

  • Interim Progress Grade Reports will be as follows:
    • O = Outstanding (exceeds APS Connected Learning expectations)
    • S = Satisfactory (meets APS Connected Learning expectations)
    • U = Unsatisfactory (does not meet APS Connected Learning expectations)

It is important that you continue to connect with each teacher during this time. Your teachers have daily office hours posted in Google Classrooms, and teachers may be reached directly by email. If you are having problems connecting to learning during this time, call 330-761-2810 and leave a message. Additional communication around final report card grades will be issued soon.

Thursday, April 23, 2020: Senior Graduation Announcement

In response to Covid-19, the state legislature approved House Bill 197 which provides flexibility for local graduation requirements. Akron Public Schools is following the guidance of House Bill 197 to determine the graduation status of each senior in the Class of 2020.

A status of "On Track ' for graduation requirements will be assigned based on completion of course credits and completion of key Portrait of a Graduate tasks supporting a successful transition to one of the 3 E's (Employment, Enrollment, Enlistment).

If a senior is “Off Track” from meeting graduation requirements, the student will complete course requirements through online learning (APS Connected Learning), so they can improve their graduation status to "On Track" and complete key Portrait of a Graduate tasks supporting a successful transition to one of the 3 E's (Employment, Enrollment, Enlistment).

APS is dedicated to ensuring that each senior has the opportunity to meet the requirements outlined in their personalized graduation plan. Starting April 20, 2020, high school counselors will contact each senior to inform them of their graduation status and advise them on next steps towards successful graduation completion.

Monday, March 30, 2020 Announcement: What is going on with school?

Starting Monday, March 30th, school is fully started back up again, but teachers and students will be teaching and learning online from their own homes using their Chromebooks. Teachers worked hard every day last week setting up virtual classrooms, called Google Classrooms, for all of your classes. They are very excited to see all of you as you virtually join their classrooms on Monday.

March 30 - April 9: During these 9 school days, you need to actively participate in the Google Classrooms created by your teachers. Each teacher will have their own directions for you once you join their Google classroom. To learn how to join a classroom:

  1. Start by clicking on the Classroom Connected portion of this website for short tutorials on getting started and join your teacher's classrooms.
  2. Be sure to connect with each teacher through email, Google Hangouts Meet, or posted assignments. We want to know that you were all able to connect! School attendance is required and will be taken each week based on whether you are connecting with your teachers and working on your assignments.
  3. Explore the rest of this site for important information and resources.

April 10 - April 17: Spring Break Week! Rest, recharge, and be safe. Feel free to continue to login into the APS portal where you will find all of your regular tiles/activities to explore. Check out some books from LRC Connected.

April 20 - June 3: Only 33 more days of school! It is important that you pay attention to announcements regarding how you will be able to complete the last quarter of school. The governor of Ohio may continue to tell us to keep learning online from home. Office & Help Connected will be updated with frequently asked questions and answers.

You may need help as you connect to your online learning.

We are here to help you!

  • Your first step to getting help is through your teacher or counselor using your email or Google Classroom.
  • If you continue to have questions you are unable to resolve, submit a Help Desk Form. When completing the form, include as much detail about your problem or question as you can and provide a method to contact you.

Note: If you are unable to get online, calling school phone numbers will direct you to the Student Engagement Center. Someone at the Engagement Center can submit the form for you.
