Professional Learning: Instructional Practices

Increasing Our Professional Knowledge

We believe in interdisciplinary learning to engage students in high-quality STEM Learning.  As our strategic plan says, SMART Goal #1 is to increase cohesion in instructional approaches. Therefore, we have implemented weekly PLCs, STEAM events to engage students and stakeholders, and interdisciplinary lessons.

To support our ability to provide high-quality, critical thinking in STEM education we have worked to get the majority of our staff Gifted certified.  We also realize the importance of arts integration. We have a cohort of teachers working diligently to increase their knowledge and implementation of arts integration.

Kennessaw State University has worked with us to help us develop Project-Based Learning Units. With their help, we have learned more about this process. In addition, they have helped us learn about SAMR and personalized learning.

Our school-based Educational Technology Specialist and instructional coaches have provided embedded professional development, so teachers can get support in integrating the curriculum, learning technology skills for student creation and integration of computer science skills.
