Student Products: SOME FACTS ABOUT FOOD AND FOOD DESERTS
The data shows that the five selected nearby counties—Lincoln, Wilkes, Lamar, Stewart, and Fulton—have food insecurity rates ranging from 12.5% of the population (Fulton) to 20.2% (Stewart). Even the lowest of these rates is alarming, demonstrating a great need to address healthy food access and affordability in Atlanta.
This data compares two of the counties—Lamar and Stewart—more closely. It reveals that Stewart County has the higher rate (20.2%) of food insecurity, but Lamar's rate of 14.6% is by no means low either. Both counties would benefit from measures to improve food access and affordability.
In this presentation, students were encouraged to collaborate with each other in listing some facts and statistics on food deserts in Atlanta.
