I would like to welcome you to Volcano Vista baseball Interscholastics Athletics class. “Interscholastic Athletics is designed for the student athlete who participates in a school-sponsored team sport or activity” (APS course guide). While in this class, students will learn fundamental to advanced concepts, skills, strategies, teamwork and leadership skills related to playing the sport of baseball. It is expected that students will attend and participate in all activities and workouts in preparation of trying out and playing baseball for VVHS.
Students in this class will be expected to participate in tryouts starting at the start of the season. As a result of the pandemic, this year’s official season is beginning April 5 and will run into June (please plan accordingly). A sports physical must be on file with the athletic trainer prior to after-school preseason workouts (if you choose to participate) prior to the season officially starting. You must have a physical in order to try out. Those students who do not make the team will have alternative workouts during class period.
To get the most out of this course in hopes of making the VVHS baseball team, students must:
Attend class daily ready to work on becoming a better baseball player, teammate and person.
Be Prepared: show up with all necessary equipment. While there is no class fee, students are expected to purchase any gear necessary to participate in this class (ie. gloves, hat, protective equipment, baseball pants, cleats, etc…)
Participate in all activities (follow instructions and use time wisely)
Accept coaching
Have fun playing the game of baseball
Illness or injury: Parents note is required to excuse you from workouts. For injuries or illnesses requiring more than two (2) days off requires a doctor’s or trainers note. Long term prolonged inability to participate due to injury or illness may lead to a schedule change.
Absence: To receive credit for missed days, students will participate in alternative workouts (conditioning, skill workouts, etc…). It is the students responsibility to see the teacher for makeup workout.
