What's My Role in TIII?
As a teacher, your primary role is to implement and utilize any resources or services that are funded by Title III to increase the English proficiency and academic achievement of the English Learners (ELs) in your care.
Sometimes, though, you may be asked to play a role in the purchasing process. Here is what you need to know!

WHAT ARE MY NEXT STEPS?
I have been asked to manage my school's TIII allocation by selecting resources/services to purchase to support ELs on my campus.
Collaborate with other members of your school staff to determine the language & academic needs of ELs at your site
Identify what supplemental services or resources are needed to meet those needs
Meet with your site administrator to discuss alignment to/allowability under Title III
Please invite me (Angela Rodriguez) to be part of this conversation if you'd like to ensure that work moving forward is in alignment with TIII

KEY TERMS
Allocation: The portion of the district Title III award that is assigned to your school based on the number of English Learners enrolled at your site on the 80th day of the previous school year.
Requisition: A formal request to utilize funding. A submitted requisition does not guarantee purchase but instead, initiates the purchasing process.
Justification: A formal, written statement which explains how the requested services or resources will be utilized to increase the English language proficiency and academic achievement of English Learners.
Supplement: To "build upon" or "add to" resources and services that are already in place to support English Learners in attaining English language proficiency and academic achievement.
Example: Providing after-school tutoring services designed for English Learners. This is supplementary because it goes above and beyond the services provided to students during the instructional day.
Supplant: To "replace" or "take the place of" other state, local or federal funds used to support all students, including English Learners.
Example: A school site sets aside $30,000 in operational funds to purchase iPads for all students. Once they receive their TIII allocation, they plan to use $5,000 from their TIII funding to reduce the cost from the operational budget from $30,000 to $25,000 in order to use the savings for other purchases. This is not allowable and constitutes supplanting.
