The video below will walk you through the different pieces of the IPASS format and shows an example problem that has been written up using it. The document below the video is an outline that you can use as a prompt when you are using it.
Mark the Text on the problem using the following steps:
1. Read the problem, and number the sentences.
2. Box the question. (Highlight in Green)
3. Circle the keywords. (nouns and verbs, things and actions) (Highlight in Yellow)
4. Underline the descriptive phrases. (adjectives and adverbs, descriptions) (Highlight in Blue)
Tell the plan that you will follow in order to solve the problem.
Follow your plan to solve the problem.
Check to see if you did the problem correctly or made any mistakes in your calculations or logic.
See if there is another way you could solve the problem and if there is, do it so that you can corroborate your answer.
Show me that you checked your work!
Write a sentence telling the solution with correct context and label.
