How are students identified for gifted services?

At San Antonito STEM Magnet Elementary, students may be referred for gifted evaluation when there is a need to further explore their learning strengths and abilities.

The gifted identification process includes:

• Referral – A student may be referred for a gifted evaluation by a parent, teacher, or other school personnel. Referrals are submitted to the student's general education teacher.

• Evaluation – The student completes an evaluation that provides information about their cognitive and/or academic abilities.

• Eligibility Determination – A team reviews the evaluation results and other available information to determine whether the student meets criteria for gifted services.

• Gifted Services – If eligible, the student's educational needs are considered and gifted services are developed to support their strengths and areas of need.
