2024-25 NM All-State Information

What is All State?

Youth All-State is a festival put on by the New Mexico American Choral Directors Association (NMACDA). As a member, I am given the opportunity to submit audition recordings. It is an opportunity for talented young singers to be a part of select auditioned groups to perform challenging music in a concert with peers. It is a great honor to be selected for either of these two groups.  If selected, singers will be given music to prepare in early December and will attend the  All State Festival January 30 - February 1st in Albuquerque, NM where they will work with a guest conductor and perform a high-level concert. There is no time commitment outside of school except to work on learning and memorizing their music and for the All State weekend. 

We are fortunate here in NM (very rare in other states) to have the opportunity to sing in an Elementary and Middle School All-State choir, composed of elite singers from around the state.

What is the audition process?

To audition for All State you will:

1. Make a recording with Mrs. Clarke  - Audition days are Sept 25 and 26. Time slots to record will be posted soon.  There will be 15 minute slots for you to come to the choir room and record.   They will be after school, so you will need to arrange this with your parents. Also - there is a $10 audition fee this year. If selected, this $10 will be subtracted from the registration fee.

6th  Grade

Prepare:

Optional Rehearsals Thursday - 9/5 and 9/12 Afterschool from 3-4pm

Lunch practice on Wednesdays

Recording - 9/25 and 9/26

7th and 8th Grade

Prepare:

My Country Tis of Thee (or Jubilate Deo)

Bridge Builder Measures 69-89

Optional Rehearsals Tuesday - 9/10 and 9/17 Afterschool from 3-4pm

2. NEW PROCEDURE! In order to secure an audition slot - you must submit a "first" audition by Sept 19th. Send a recording of yourself singing both songs to Mrs Clarke by email or phone, so that you can get feedback before the audition recording day. 

3.  On the recording you will be singing 2 things - My Country Tis of Thee and the Audition Song for your grade - either Bridge Builder (7/8) or Let Me Fly ( 6) 

5. Once submitted - a panel of judges will listen to all the recordings submitted from around the state and decide whether your voice would be a good fit for the All-State choir. We find out by mid November.
