For the Spring '26 semester project, Peer Helpers hosted "A Day Dedicated to Healthy Relationships and Teen Dating Violence Awareness". Eight community organizations participated in the event; Domestic Violence Resource Center, New Mexico Dream Center, Rape Crisis Center of Central New Mexico, Albuquerque Police Department, Enlace Comunitario, Transgender Resource Center, Agora Crisis Center, and First Choice Community Healthcare. Presenters from five of the organizations presented to students on various topics, and all the organizations hosted tables during lunch to pass out information and resources to students. Across seven periods, 1746 students attended the presentations and approximately 500 students interacted with the organizations during the lunch tabling.
For the Fall '25 semester Project, RGHS Peer Helpers volunteered at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Albuquerque Out of the Darkness Walk. Peer Helpers also hosted a table to promote the Peer Helpers program, pass out suicide prevention materials, and play Plinko for prizes!
For the Spring '25 semester Project, Peer Helpers participated in the annual South Valley Pride Parade. This was our 3rd year participating in the parade, and we had the biggest and best float, deicated to mental health and suicide awareness, yet! In addition to mental health awareness messaging on the float, Peer Helpers also shouted many mental health awareness chants along the parade route and passed out over five hundred 988 youth suicide warning signs fliers to parade watchers.
For the Fall '24 semester project, Peer Helpers attended the Youth Voice's In Action Youth Summit. During the summit, students attended breakout sessions where they were able to collaborate with students from other schools around Albuquerque. During the summit, students voiced their concerns and opinions about issues that are affecting their communities such as youth mental health, gun violence, juvenile crime, and more. Participants also voiced their ideas on possible solutions to these issues, focusing on long-term solutions and systematic changes.
For the spring '24 semester project, RGHS Peer Helpers participated in the South Valley Pride Parade. Our parade float was decorated in green, the color of mental health awareness, and displayed several posters promoting mental health awareness and de-stigmatization of mental health issues and seeking help. During the parade, Peer Helpers also passed out 1500 cards with information on the 988 suicide & crisis lifeline to parade attendees.
For the fall '23 semester project, RGHS Peer Helpers volunteered to help with the Breakfast with Santa event hosted by Los Padillas Community Center. The Peer Helpers served breakfast to families and visited with the future Ravens of our community!
For the spring '23 semester project, RGHS Peer Helpers hosted an informational booth during Incoming Freshman Night on February 1, 2023. During the event, Peer Helpers interacted with incoming freshman and their families by discussing the Peer Helper program and handing out fliers with mental health resources and healthy coping mechanisms to deal with stress and anxiety. The Peer Helpers also facilitated a game in which participants won prizes that promote making healthy choices. See picture of the event below!
The RGHS Peer Helpers fall '22 semester project honored International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day (November 19th, 2022). The event was held in the RGHS Commons area during lunch and featured several resources for students, staff and the community including: suicide prevention tips; information on local resources and grief groups; recommended books for teen survivors; tips on how to talk to someone that is grieving; crisis numbers; and more. In addition, those in attendance were able to honor loved ones lost to suicide by writing their name on ribbon and displaying it on an in memoriam board. See pictures of the event below!
On 4/23/23, the RGHS Peer Helpers participated in the 30th Annual South Valley Pride Parade. The Peer Helpers marched in the parade holding 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline posters and positive affirmation posters. Peer Helpers also gave out candy with 988 stickers and wallets cards to hundreds of parade watchers.
