First, I want to welcome your student to my class. I strive to create a welcoming environment for all students. This year I will be teaching four 8th grade science.
My name is Laura Farris. This is my fourteenth year of teaching. I have spent my entire career teaching middle school; this is my seventh year at Tony Hillerman. I plan to utilize a variety of technology tools and AVID strategies in my classes because I know they build skills that help my students increase their success, not only in class but also for their academic future. My goal is to motivate students to be the best they can be in all areas of school.
When I am not teaching, I can be found spending time with my husband and my two children. We like to spend time together watching movies, playing Nintendo Switch, and doing various arts and crafts. I enjoy reading, baking, and creating stained glass.
I'm looking forward to spending the year working with your student and getting to know them.

I am excited to welcome you to 8th grade science. It is my hope that we can have a fun time together on your educational journey.
I am David Barnes and this year will mark a decade at THMS! I love teaching 8th grade science because we learn about some truly amazing topics. I am always expanding my repertoire of teaching strategies and I strive to have an engaging classroom. Students should always feel comfortable talking to me about what is working and what is not.
I have two kids, my eldest son in starting 1st grade. My wonderful wife is a veterinarian. As such, we have a lot of pets. In my free time I love to play games, read and watch anime.
I am looking forward to working with each and every one of you this year.

Basic information that is important to all classes will be on this page. I will be teaching science as well as Advisory and W.I.N. so specific information will be posted under your student's class. I will be including information on important dates, assignments and strategies needed for each class.

In person during class work time.
In person during passing period/ after school.

I will respond within 24 hours, Monday through Friday. Any Owls received on Friday after 3 will be responded to the following school day.
