Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Please allow me to take a moment of your time to introduce myself, and provide you with information regarding 7th Grade Mathematics. My name is Roberta Greenberg and I will be teaching your child 7th grade math. I hold a BBA in Marketing, a Post-baccalaureate degree in Elementary Education, and a Masters degree in Secondary Education. Although my passion is math, I am highly qualified to teach mathematics, social studies, and language arts. It's important to integrate information from all subjects in math and students will be required to utilize correct writing conventions when providing written responses.

Instruction will be focused on the Grade Level Math Standards. Grading in the classroom will be based on the APS standard grading policy reviewed in the Student Agenda. Students will be graded on completion of assignments/projects and on attendance. All grades are calculated on total points accumulated. Extra credit will only be given for signed quizzes/tests, or for opportunities which are equitable to the entire group – NO EXCEPTIONS! Exams will be given periodically to determine student progress. All exams will be cumulative – i.e. include ALL previous material studied.

At LBJ, students are expected to come to class prepared to learn! Please be sure your student has the appropriate daily supplies for class as well as their student agenda. Students have been assigned an APS/LBJ Chromebook to access the online learning environment. The Chromebook is intended for student usage to access the Google classrooms and to complete assignments and diagnostics online. Assignments and announcements will be posted in the Google classroom and may be assigned a task grade for completion. All students will be required to submit class work in MidSchoolMath and additional lessons in i-Ready. Grades for work completed will be posted in the Synegry grade book. Please use StudentVue and ParentVue to monitor student progress.

Students will be expected to be on time and to bring their homework with them to class. Also, encourage your student to eat breakfast to help them stay focused in class. Food, drinks, and/or snacks are allowed during online learning. However, I would like to please ask students to turn off their camera and microphone while they are eating.

Homework is a student responsibility! It should be regarded as the practice necessary to advance a student’s academic understanding. Students are expected to come to class ready to demonstrate the effort they made to complete any homework assignments. Students must attempt the work and demonstrate they have made an effort in order to receive any credit. A zero indicates unacceptable performance in my class – therefore, you will be notified regarding any missing work through comments posted in the Synergy grade records. Please use the Synergy Parent-Vue link and/or the student agenda to monitor your student’s progress and to view comments regarding class work and behavior. Failure to submit ANY assigned work (including projects) on time will result in a posted comment on the Parent-Vue link and will also be stamped in the student agenda. Please note: APS guidelines regarding acceptance of homework following an excused absence, or a suspension will be followed.

Please be assured that I am most interested in your child’s success in my class. I enjoy contacting you with good news regarding student progress! However, I will also contact you if a parent-teacher conference is needed to discuss classroom concerns. Parents/guardians are always welcome in the classroom (with appropriate clearance from the office) to visit, or to view student accomplishments. I also strongly encourage any help you are able to offer your child at home – your interest, involvement, and your concern improve your child’s chances for academic success and excellence! You may want to consider scheduling a set time for homework/study-time at home. This will help your student develop strong habits of mind, enable them to focus on completing homework and/or help them prepare for exams. It will also allow your family the chance to schedule important activities.

Please feel free to contact me with any concerns you may have by sending me an email message at greenberg@aps.edu and I will reply to your email message as soon as possible. I look forward to working with your child, and to meeting you during the Team Virtual Open House on Tuesday, September 8th from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

Respectfully yours,

Mrs. R. Greenberg
